Do your launches flop?

I recently made a video on failed Product Hunt launches.

But I feel like I made it too short and there’s much more to cover. Let’s dive in.

But first, why even launch on Product Hunt? I didn’t even know it existed until I started making my own products. It isn’t really that popular in my area (Poland), so I was shocked when I discovered that it has 5.4 milion monthly active users.

THAT’S A LOT!

If you manage to hit the spot, you are looking for tens of thousands of link clicks.

And link clicks == 💸💸💸

(If your offer isn’t chatgpt generated 🫠)

Anyway, my fellow Notion Template creators brag about 1st Product of the Day on every single template they have.

And I wanted that shiny badge too!

They look lovely, don’t they?

So, here’s how my first launch went (Creator Suite).

I finished the template and started preparing:

  1. Made the logo and graphics

  2. Recorded a fancy video

  3. Spent hours on writing the perfect first comment

And there was a lot of boring stuff I procrastinated on, which isn’t worth mentioning.

Then the launch day comes, and deep inside you’re always hopeful it will go viral and you’ll be rich overnight, but the reality is - nobody cares.

That’s the case when your product is just a small add-on to some big tech product: a plugin, a template, a graphics pack…

All those things are super useful, but they do not belong on Product Hunt.

Hunters need something exciting. Something big. Life - changing.

So, if you’re making extensions like me, spend your time on other channels.

If you recorded some reels or shorts instead of preparing the launch, you would’ve gotten much more traffic, I’m sure.

Now, I don’t know what you’re making, but try to do some research and target the marketing at the right audience.

Don’t waste your precious time!

Stay inspired,

Victor Jaro
